It is more like a van than an actual bus and the class is divided into two groups, taking two trips to go and come back from lunch. After lunch, I usually come back to the Master building with the first group, to open the door, prepare the class etc.
On one of these winter days, I came back from lunch with the first group, and since the Italian lesson was right after lunch, we were waiting for the second group to start.
Bear in mind that this is an intense and demanding Master program. When you have a break, you had better take advantage of it. Therefore, one of the students of the first group, who is known as “Mickey Mouse”, turned on the classroom computer and with the help of YouTube and the classroom microphone, started a Karaoke session.
After a couple of performances, the second group of students arrived with the bus accompanied by (my wonderful colleagues and the students’ guardian angels) Andrea and Federica. When they heard “Mickey Mouse” sing, the students rushed into the class to participate. But as you know, I had to start our Italian lesson, so I followed them into the class to stop the music and…that was the end: no way out!
Have you ever seen a horror movie? Smashing doors, people shouting, heavy rain, blowing wind, etc.? Well, maybe it was not so creepy, but I swear, Andrea, Federica and the students started chanting “Davide, Davide, Davide” as if they were in a stadium. At first I tried to resist, reminding them about the lesson, but they just answered “It’s Italian class, sing an Italian song!”. What could I reply? I just thought “when the going gets tough….”, so I grabbed the microphone, took a deep breath, chose an Italian song (Vita Spericolata by Vasco Rossi, editor’s note) and…I started to sing! And I did not even sing out of tune…maybe.
By the way “The trap” ended up being one of the funniest moment of my Master 2016 experience. After class, one of the students asked me “Are you going to miss us?” My answer was “Definitely”.
Until the next update!
